PROTOTYPE SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The BiLevel coaches were designed by Toronto’s regional commuter rail service, GO Transit and Hawker Siddeley Canada in the mid-1970s as a more efficient replacement for GO’s original single-deck coaches and cab cars. Later coaches were manufactured by Urban Transportation Development Corporation/Can-Car and, most recently, Bombardier. Alstom purchased Bombardier in 2021 and now owns the designs and manufacturing facility. There are more than 1,500 BiLevel coaches in service today, all of which have been built in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The coaches have gone over numerous design changes over the years, originally featuring more shorter windows and larger intermediate levels featuring the washroom on the aforementioned level, and 162 seats in the original series’. Now featuring fewer taller windows, smaller intermediate levels, 136 seats, and a fully accessible washroom on the lower level. The exterior was also changed from being riveted fiberglass sides to being welded steel panels featuring a cleaner look.

Bombardier Coach set.
These are very good cars. Out of my newer made passenger cars this track the best. The paint schemes look great. Detail is very good. And at a good price. These new run has tented windows and painted diaphragms makes them look even better. The cars couple close and even navigate 18" curves. The only issue was that 1 axle on each car had was out of gauge and when you reset it you have to make sure not to cause the breaks details to really work. The other thing to note is these cars drag a bit because of how they ride on the axles. The drag plus the weight means only my best pulling locos can pull a 5 car train up a grade. And when backing them around a curve you may get a popping sound from the diaphragms touching together. They still get 5 stars

I have been waiting for their new release for 2 years. These double in price on eBay when they are sold out.

Great value
The New Mexico paint scheme always gets sold out first. The Rapidos have better details and lighting; but these Athearn cars are great value and they all look the same when you’re running them. So the choice is yours. You can’t go wrong with either.
