Description

The Trinity 3230 Pressure Differential (PD) covered hopper is essentially a smaller version of TrinityRail’s 5660 PD. The smaller version was developed from the base design introduced by Thrall Car in the late 1990s.

The smaller size enables the cars to be loaded with heavier ladings such as cement and various grades of fly ash. Most of the cars are operated by Railcar (Leasing) companies or Shippers.

Features:

  • All new tooling
  • Ready to run
  • Injection molded plastic
  • Fine scale detail
  • Etched metal roofwalks

    Great PD...

Posted by Harry Edmunds on 14th Jul 2023

This was the 3rd Trinity 3230 PD Covered Hopper I've purchased. On the other two, the grabs on the top walkway at the ladder tops came loose and fell off, never to be seen again because of their extremely small size. So, on this last purchase, I removed the car from the plastic box and immediately secured the grabs to the walkway with a dab of super glue applied with a straight pin tip. Now I don't have to worry about loosing the grabs. Overall, this car has excellent detail like the other two. Atlas didn't miss any details on these cars. I would say they are some of the best I've seen! I do however, suspect that the body mounted couplers, while looking like Micro-Trains, are actually Micro-Trains clones. They do however, operate just like Micro-Trains and couple perfectly to Micro-Trains couplers. Great job Atlas!!
