Description
Belonging to a series of ex-Burlington Northern cars before becoming BNSF owned, these cars were originally built for Northern Pacific by American Car & Foundry in the late 1960s. Used by BNSF largely for powdered cement hauling, they sometimes acquire a semi-permanent shell of cured cement streaks. Burlington Northern was formed through the mergers of Great Northern and Northern Pacific in 1970, and then merged with ATSF in 1995 to form BNSF. BNSF is one of the largest freight railroads in the country with over 32,000 miles of rail.

Micro-Trains BNSF 2- bay covered hoppers
Although the weathering on these cars looks pretty accurate, I'm still going to apply some gray PanPastel so it doesn't look so painted on, which of course it is. The one thing missing on these cars is the metal crossover platforms on the car ends. That was fixed with BLMA #403 Freight Car Coupler Platforms and Tuscan paint. Photos of the actual cars show how great a job Micro-Trains did in replicating the cement buildup on the sides of the cars. I'm quite pleased with this purchase.
