  I have found these very useful in my town planning. Roads look great in your towns, but parking completes the picture. I use these to help determine how wide my streets should be (including street parking spaces as well as parking lots) to accommodate shoppers and other folks with business downtown on my layout. I pin them in place and then add sidewalks and buildings. Then shuffle things around till I like what I see.
