I saw Ron from Ron’s Trsins N Things use a #17 chisel blade to use for removing spikes and tie plates on HO scale track. I tried it and it worked.

Excel #17 chisel blades
These are perfect for cutting out styrene for windows. They're wide enough for many window sizes and make short work of getting a straight cut. I may end up needing to buy some extra handles because it's helpful to have several different knives and blades available.
