This caboose was built in 1980 as a Southern Pacific C-50-9 by Paccar, and was among the last cabooses Southern Pacific ordered. It was repainted into Union Pacific colors in the late 2010s and was used as a “shoving platform,” allowing crews to be on the lookout during reverse switching movements. South_x0002_ern Pacific was a Class 1 railroad from 1865 until 1996, when it was absorbed by Union Pacific after falling on hard times financially in the 1970s and 1980s.
