These 55-ton steel open hoppers were produced by the CB&Q’s Havelock Shops in 1945, and were designed for coal service. The CB&Q, commonly known as the Burlington, was founded in 1849 and was based in Chicago, Illinois. In the 1970s, it was merged with the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, and SP&S to form Burlington Northern, which is now part of BNSF.

CBQ 33’ open hoppers
Put them right on the track in a string of cars and they looked great. Mine is a layout on the UP of Michigan and they fit right in with similar cars like 40’ boxcars. They ran very smoothly.
