    Barrels not...

Posted by chuck on 16th Jul 2022

The petroleum industry measures tank capacity in barrels (42 gallons per barrel) and not gallons. The tanks modeled here would be 12,000 barrels, which is accurate for a tank this size. The tanks are numbered by the amount of product they can contain. ie these tanks would be numbered 12-1 & 12-2. The Dike area needs to be large enough to hold the maximum capacity of the tank as secondary containment and needs a dike drain valve to remove rain water from the dike area after a rain storm.
