Description
Track inspection pits are narrow trenches built between the rails inside locomotive or car shops, allowing workers to inspect and service running gear, brake rigging, traction motors, and piping from below. This is a single part model that you can use to create these pits in shops where maintenance occurs. Model comes pre-primed and ready for painting. To install, cut a trench before laying track. The trench should be 22.8cm by 2cm. It should be deep enough so that the top of the stairs on either end are level with the top of the ties (about 0.8cm). Place model inside (after painting, model comes pre-primed) and secure with adhesive. Next, place the track above the pit. For the track directly above the pit, remove the ties and secure rails to the model. This ensures that the rails maintain the correct gauge. As you do this, ensure that you routinely test to ensure any issues are resolved before going further! If you have difficulty with rails not being parallel, sand down corners of the model that rise up and become rail height. This should ensure that there is space and no obtrusions preventing the gauge from not being correct.
