– Lancaster & Chester (L&C) “Echotone Special” 1963+ is a neat “unique box car” SKU to go with our other L&C models from 1964.  L&C kept with the spirit of the early 1960s, where bright colors and graphics began to really rule the rails, forging new identity for railroads.  This special car, painted by the railroad in 1963, offered a purple color for the carbody with light blue and white stripe patterns mimicking the colorful Springmaid line of “Echotone” patterned bedsheets.  This beautiful car includes the sharp, large “The Springmaid Line” logo on the right side of the car in multiple colors, and it was “wrapped in a bow,” just like the Springmaid bedsheet packaging (see photo below).  The logo is amazingly recreated on our model – you have to see it with your own eyes to believe it!  The left side of the car includes the classy Lancaster and Chester stylized logo.  The railroad hauled both inbound materials and outbound finished goods.  The railroad also served other shippers in a region of South Carolina that is still a vibrant railcar consumer today.  These models have the early version of the Superior 9’ door, and Miner handbrake housings and wheels like the prototype did.  Finally, these models ride on Tangent’s gorgeous Barber S-2 50-Ton plain bearing truck, complete with separate brake beam detail.  This Lancaster & Chester model is unique – and therefore is only offered with one road number.
