Description
The TGV Sud-Est was the first generation of TGV trains deployed on France's LGV Sud-Est line, Europe's first high-speed rail route, connecting Paris and Lyon. After being used on conventional rail lines before the line's opening, it began operation at a top speed of 260 km/h with the line's inauguration in 1981. Two years later, the speed was increased to 270 km/h as the line was extended. At that time, it surpassed the operating speed of Japan's Shinkansen and attracted attention as the world's fastest train. The line and train underwent various updates, eventually reaching a maximum speed of 300 km/h, and continued to be active for many years. Even now, after the real vehicles have retired, the original orange color of the first generation remains popular.
